Expect the best, plan for the worst!

Sitting with my coffee on a rainy Sunday, I’m dreaming of my next adventure.  I’m wondering if my partner in adventure, Tim the Mustang, who is spending his weekend in a stall, is perhaps thinking about the same thing? What he doesn’t know is there are only 5 more sleeps to the final Getaway Horseplay Obstacle Challenge weekend in Novato, CA! Getting ready for the next adventure, I’m sitting here running a little checklist through my mind of  what I’ll need to pack. Last spring I had quickly put together a few things for a first aid kit for Tim,

Barely Domesticated of a certain age

One of the joys in my life is matching riders of a certain age with appropriate horses of a certain age. Both have so much left to give in their lives, but need a partner of equal potential and suitability to enjoy each other. Neither can be too high strung, too athletic, or too demanding for the other. A perfect match means a longer, happier life for both! Author’s note ~ Debra DeAngelo’s look of unbridled joy from riding again after 33 years says it all.   I’m so proud my little Mustang, Tim, could give her so much joy.

You may be Barely Domesticated if…

Although most of us Barely Domesticated folks know who we are and proud of it, here’s a little quiz to see if you’re truly Barely Domesticated  (or maybe you don’t even know it!): 1. your riding/work jean cleanliness is dubious, and debatable, and yet you wear them in the grocery store 2. your idea of “decorating” is putting pet photos on your Facebook wall 3. you give your horse a bite of apple, and THEN take a bite yourself 4. you have used Bag Balm as lip balm, or…. 5. you have served Rocky Mountain oysters that you “harvested yourself”

Barely Domesticated finding out How the West was Fun

Perfect Getaway Horseplay event!  How the West was Fun took us to the PAL&CC Ranch in Paso Robles, CA.  We were graciously hosted by Stephen Yerger and his wrangler, Quentin Hall.             We arrived on Friday afternoon, and settled the horses into roomy, safe, and comfortable mare motel stalls.  Set up the camper and we were set for the weekend!  Tim was even visited by his grandparents, Jack and Jan Rasmussen. Cherie Cross greeted us with nice Mexican Fiesta and the best Sangria (they sell it at the grocery store!) I’ve ever had.

Oh No Someone Gave Her a GoPro!

Toys, Toys, Toys!  I may be barely domesticated, but I love toys, especially toys I can enjoy with my horse habit.  Which of us does not? My dear son gave me a GoPro, and I used it for the first time when I rode in Novato, CA, at the Getaway Horseplay Obstacle Challenge Weekend (July 10, 2016) to document the obstacles, successes, bobbles, and progress.  I have been practicing with obstacles and was so pleased when my Tim made significant progress with some of the obstacles, and found some things we need to continue working on. So here it is, my
