Barely Domesticated finding out How the West was Fun

Perfect Getaway Horseplay event!  How the West was Fun took us to the PAL&CC Ranch in Paso Robles, CA.  We were graciously hosted by Stephen Yerger and his wrangler, Quentin Hall.

We arrived on Friday afternoon, and settled the horses into roomy, safe, and comfortable mare motel stalls.  Set up the camper and we were set for the weekend!  Tim was even visited by his grandparents, Jack and Jan Rasmussen.

Cherie Cross greeted us with nice Mexican Fiesta and the best Sangria (they sell it at the grocery store!) I’ve ever had.

Saturday 20

Saturday morning Quentin started us out with the Ranch Work 101.  We started slowly with one on one time directing the calves.  Then we graduated to working in teams, and some friendly timed competition.  After working in the smaller pen, we moved the cows to the large arena and moved them all in different directions.  We even practiced some 20 meter circles around the cows.  Way to break up the monotony of dressage work!

Saturday evening we were hosted for dinner by Tommy and Debby Harris, of Harris Stage Lines, who treated us to a tour of Stephen Yerger’s coaches, and their massive transport system, and provided us all with a real stagecoach ride.  After dinner we were treated to a sampling from their full sized concert organ, as well as a tour behind the scenes.  Food was great, local wines were great, company was great, entertainment was great…  all around fantastic time!

Sunday ride 4

Sunday found us back at Harris Stage Lines for a trail ride led by Debby Harris, followed by a delicious lunch and lively discussion!  Again, such gracious hosts, and I can’t wait to go back again.

I put together a little wrap of of the weekend.  Just getting used to working with the Go Pro, and definitely NOT a Go Pro pro!  Enjoy!
